| | relieved that yesterday's over | ] | Last night I took my car in to Sears to get the oil changed. I chose Sears primarily because I work all day, and they're the only place I could find that stayed open late, and also because I know two of the mechanics there, one of whom is a fairly nice boy. We arrived there around 5:35, and the man who checked us in said it'd be about an hour and a half wait, so we found things to keep us us busy until 7:15-ish, at which point we went back to check. The next guy told us it'd be 30 more minutes, that they were about to start on our car, so we went back again around 7:45, only to see that the guy we know, Charley, was working. Charley talked to us for a few minutes and informed us that everybody else there was a moron and he was just about to start on our car, telling us to check back in 30 MORE minutes! When we went back around 8:15, the other guy said Charley was still doing our car and to come back in 20 more minutes. So we went back at 8:40, and guess what happened next . . .
There's something wrong with something, I think they said the drain plug had been stripped away, and if it had been put back on the car in that condition, it'd most likely never come off again and then the oil wouldn't be able to be changed! Of course they didn't have the part that it needed, so it wouldn't be ready until the next morning. At this point, we'd been waiting over 3 hours, and neither Flo nor I were very happy, and Flo went slightly postal on them, telling them that they needed to get a better concept of how long it was going to take. The guy's defense was, "Well, since 7:00, it's been a 2 hour wait," and when Flo informed him we'd been there well before 6, the guy became silent. Flo called Natasha, her best friend from high school, who came and gave us a ride back home.
After that, Flo started freaking out because she had to be at the school where she interns at 7:30 this morning. It's way out by Santa Fe, which is about a 30 minute drive from our house. It is accessible by bus, but it would take 2 buses, and they don't start running until 7 AM. The reason she couldn't skip the volunteering is because she had to teach a lesson this morning, and if she failed to teach the lesson and then do the paper about it, she'd fail not one, but two of her classes. See, the pro-teach program here at UF doesn't care if you have transportation or not, they say it's not their problem, and they never match people up to a specific school depending upon transportation needs, it's all random. We finally asked our friend Elizabeth, who we've known for close to 20 years, if I could go stay the night with her and give her a ride to work this morning and then borrow her car (she has to be to work at 6:30 AM), but she said she'd just let us borrow it since her work is only about a 5 minute walk from her house. Crisis averted, thanks to our friends!
So, yeah, yesterday = crappy day. A pair of my pajama pants ripped as well, and there's all this family drama going on that I won't get into, and it just seems like everything that could go wrong did go wrong. |
